Real fuel consumption and economy logo

Most fuel efficient SUVs 5 to 10 years old

We calculate fuel efficiency by taking into account engine capacity and power, and comparing advertised and real fuel consumption of a specific car with cars of similar capacity and power. So the most fuel efficient car is not the one with the lowest fuel consumption, but the one that uses the least fuel to deliver the same performance. Using this approach, the most fuel efficient SUVs 5 to 10 years old are Citroen C4 Cactus, Suzuki Vitara 2014, Honda CR-V 2012 and Suzuki SX4 2013.
In absolute terms, the SUV with the lowest advertised fuel consumption is Citroen C4 Cactus 2014, although users report that actual consumption is on average 39% higher. The modification with lowest real fuel consumption by user reports (54.7 MPG or 4.3 l/100km) has Citroen C4 Cactus 2018.

This comparison does not include hybrid vehicles. The fuel consumption figures shown are the advertised figures, click on the vehicle names to see the real fuel consumption for all the modifications.
