Of all Ford Escort modifications produced from 1992 to 2000 real fuel consumption according to user ratings is similar compared to advertised consumption. For petrol engines real consumption is in average 5% higher, but for diesel engines is similar to manufacturer's stated consumption. Starting from 1992 Ford Escort average difference between actual owner-reported fuel consumption and stated consumption was significantly higher than average, at 1994 it was slightly above industry average, at 1995 difference became similar to average and finally at 1996 difference between owner-reported and advertised fuel economy became less than industry average.
