Of all Mercedes SL modifications produced from 1998 to 2018 real fuel consumption according to user ratings is approximately 15% higher compared to advertised consumption. Starting from 1998 Mercedes SL average difference between actual owner-reported fuel consumption and stated consumption was less than industry average, at 2007 it was similar to average, at 2011 difference became less than industry average and finally at 2012 difference between owner-reported and advertised fuel economy became significantly higher than average.
