Of all Citroen Xsara modifications produced from 1997 to 2005 real fuel consumption according to user ratings is approximately 4% higher compared to advertised consumption. Starting from 1997 Citroen Xsara average difference between actual owner-reported fuel consumption and stated consumption was less than industry average, at 1999 it was similar to average, at 2002 difference became slightly above industry average and finally at 2004 difference between owner-reported and advertised fuel economy became less than industry average.
