Of all BMW X1 modifications produced from 2009 to 2023 real fuel consumption according to user ratings is approximately 27% higher compared to advertised consumption. For petrol engines real consumption is in average 28% higher, but for diesel engines is approximately 26% higher. Starting from 2009 BMW X1 average difference between actual owner-reported fuel consumption and stated consumption was significantly higher than average, at 2019 it was less than industry average, at 2022 difference between owner-reported and advertised fuel economy became significantly higher than average.
